How to Protect WhatsApp Account against Hijacking – PTA Elaborates
Published On:Cyber Crime Wing of the Federal Investigation Department (FIA) has shared details that a lot of incidents about WhatsApp Account Hacking have been reported in recent months. Hence, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken an action to combat this problem, by issuing a simplified procedure for general public on how to protect WhatsApp accounts against hijacking.

According to PTA, users will need to enable WhatsApp Two-Step Verification to avoid hijacking. WhatsApp users will need to follow four (04) simple steps for the protection / verification of their WhatsApp Accounts.
How to Enable WhatsApp Two-Step Verification:
- Open WhatsApp
- Click on the 3 dots located at the upper right corner
- Then Open > Settings
- Click on > Account
- Then Select > Two-Step Verification Option
- Click > Enable
- Enter 6-digits PIN Code > then Enter Recovery Email Address for future PIN Code recovery (in case, if you forget PIN Code)
According to recent reports, WhatsApp hijacking has become a major issue which needs to be addressed on an emergency basis as approximately, 90 cases were reported to Cyber Wing during the month of November last year.
Moreover, Cyber-security agencies from various countries have started sending security alerts to combat hijacking issues. These alerts enable users to know more about the latest methods of WhatsApp Account hacking via mobile providers’ voicemail systems.
