4 Easy Ways to take a Screenshot on a Mac (Step-by-Step Guide)

If you have a Mac and want to take a screenshot then you will definitely need to know 3 easiest methods or keyboard shortcuts, with which you can take a Screenshot on a Mac. So, Let’s get started to see all possibilities on how to take Screenshots on Mac.

1. Shift-Command-4:

This method turns the cursor into a crosshair, that one can easily drag to select any specific part of the screen. All you need to do is simply release the trackpad to take a screenshot.

2. Command-Shift-3:

With Command-Shift-3 shortcut, you can actually take the screenshot of the entire screen as it captures the screenshot of the whole screen but unlike the trick that we’ve mentioned above it doesn’t or can’t take the screenshot of any specific part of the screen and to do so, you will need to follow trick Shift-Command-4 method

3. Shift-Command-5:

MacOS Mojave has basically launched this extremely helpful keyboard shortcut to take perfect screenshots. This basically calls up a very tiny panel at the bottom of your screen which enables you to capture the complete screen, a window or any particularly selected part.

Moreover, the 2 video-recording buttons allows you to record the entire screen or any selected part. If you want to close the screenshot then press left side X button (if you straight away want to exit then you just need to press the ESCAPE key).

On the right side, there’s an Options button which asks you to choose where to save your screenshots for instance; you can save your screenshots to Desktop, Clipboard, Mail, Docs, Preview, Messages and so on and so forth folders.

The Show Floating Thumbnail Feature is usually enabled by default. This option basically puts a little thumbnail of your screenshots at the lower right corner of the screen.

4. Simple Annotation:

On holding the Floating Thumbnail you can also gain quick access to the Markup tools in order to annotate the screenshots. All you need to do is simply swipe the Floating Thumbnail away or it will slip at its own and then it will automatically saved to the folder where you last saved your screenshots.

Here is a list of Markup Tools, that will be opened in a Markup View Preview Window, if you click the Floating Thumbnail:

  1. Open in Mail, Messages, Photos or Previews
  2. Delete
  3. Close & Save
  4. Show in Folder
  5. Save Screenshot to Desktop, Docs or Clipboard
  6. Open in Markup Preview Window
