PITB in collaboration with Lahore Police has recently designed an app “E-Gadget Monitoring System” which will help Smartphone users to recover, track or monitor their stolen mobile phones. The app works on both OS Platforms Android & iOS and will be distributed among mobile phone retailers in Pakistan which will help them to record basic data of all devices being sold by them.

These details will then be used in case if any cell phone gets snatched, lost or stolen. The app for now is in testing-phase declared and is currently being tested by few retailers in Lahore. The app will basically be linked to a Police Control Room, in case if a phone is stolen or snatched then an instant notification will be generated, for now it’s hard to say whether this whole process will need human intervention or not and since it’s an ongoing story, we will update you later with the strategy on how will it work behind the scenes.

The Capital City Police Chief – BA Nasir, during the introductory meeting of the App said;

Initially this system is launched in Lahore as pilot project and it will be used in other parts of the province after analysing the ratio of the success”

The Lahore Deputy Inspector General Police Investigator – Dr Inam Waheed said in a brief overview to the traders as well as media about the app functionality;

“The system is equipped with the brilliant features as an immediate alert would be generated to the police control room on any possible selling of a snatched or stolen cell phone”

According to Mr. Ehsan Saif Ullah (SSP) CRO;

“Shopkeeper would be considered as innocent if he properly fed the data in the system” he assured. The CCPO appreciated the efforts of Investigation wing of Lahore Police for developing such app for security of public and traders rights alike. There was no online data about sale and purchase of cell phones available in the past but now Lahore police has taken a lead in technology based Policing”.

Moreover, the IMEI number of each cell phone will be stored in the app, and if the FIR will be filed against a number (including IMEI details), the police will then be able to take action. As soon as the app becomes stable and is updated, it will then be launched on a large-scale in the District Of Punjab. Stay in touch for more information and updates related to this story.
