Pakistan Telecommunication
Authority (PTA) in collaboration with Federal Investigation Agency (FIA)
is continuously carrying out raids in order to control illegal telecom
activities in the country.

PTA and FIA cyber crime circle teams
recently raided Karachi’s very famous area Bahadurabad’s mobile market
and confiscated 216 non-type approved cell phones of various models
including Apple, HTC, LG, Lenovo, Samsung Hisense, Motorola and many
more.

But that’s not all, as an FIR was
also registered by FIA cyber crime circle team for the same. Pakistan
Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has taken a good initiative to
discourage frauds that are fleecing the government with grey channel
import of cell phones and other gadgets just to avoid taxes.

Moreover, it is really important to
mention here that for every model of cell phone as well as tablet PC, it
is compulsory to be type approved from PTA prior to its sale in the
open market.

In Addition: According to PTA (Source – PTA official website) Tablet
PC with Wi-Fi only functionality has been exempted by the PTA as of
August 2015 Authority Decision. In light of this all Tablet PC with
Wi-Fi only functionality does not require Type Approval or NOC from the
PTA and all are advised to directly obtain clearance from the Customs
directly as per the procedure in vogue. No NOC/Type approval for this
category will be issued from the PTA. For more details visit
