Smuggled Cell Phones Will Be Blocked

The Federal Cabinet has confirmed to impose a ban on smuggled mobile phones starting from December 31st, 2018 which means after the given deadline smuggled mobile devices will be blocked by PTA.


The decision was announced by the Federal Minister Mr. Fawad Chaudhry just after the Cabinet Meeting. According to him, Government in a bid to encourage local mobile phones industry decided to block smuggled cell phones in Pakistan.


He also added that after 31st December 2018, smuggled cell phones will not be usable in Pakistan. However, such mobile phones brought into the country latest by December 31st, 2018 would work.

After the given deadline, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will block smuggled devices. According to Federal Minister, mobile devices worth Rs. 2.5 billion are smuggled into country each year/annually.


In addition to this; the Federal Minister also confirmed that cabinet has also approved the appointment of Arif Usmani as the President of National Bank Of Pakistan. He also shared, that the cabinet has also approved to open Kartarpur Border Corridor in order to facilitate Sikh pilgrims.


The Prime Minister, Mr. Imran Khan will inaugurate the opening of India Pakistan border crossing. Moreover, Special Visas will be issued to Indian Journalists who will be interested in attending the event.
